I’m starting #StetChat, an hourlong live conversation on Bluesky for the editing community. Each chat focuses on a specific editing-related topic. We encourage all editors to chime in and share their insights and ideas.
You can read more about #StetChat and how it works on our spiffy brand-new website! But here on my blog, I wanted to share why this project is important to me and why I wanted to start #StetChat in the first place.
Why I’m Starting #StetChat
During and after the #ACES2026 conference in Atlanta, I was reflecting on the OG Editing Twitter community back in the good ol’ days. I spent a lot of my meals at the conference with editors who I’d first met through Editing Twitter, and it made me nostalgic.
I miss OG Twitter/Bluesky chats and the editing community that formed around them. That Editing Twitter community was torn apart by Musk’s takeover and the enshittification of Twitter, and we’ve never fully regrouped and had that same type of text-based conversational medium.
I learned SO MUCH from the Editing Twitter community; that group of editors was so influential and essential in going freelance and being a better editor. There was something so cool about being able to just chat about editing-related topics through a text-based medium like Twitter or Bluesky. Like, Zoom webinars and chapter meetings are great, but they don’t always capture the same level of engagement as the chats did. In webinars, you don’t get to truly have a conversation with the presenter, and Zoom meetings can feel so formal and maybe even anxiety-inducing for editors who feel more comfortable expressing themselves through the written word.
And I felt like I got to know edibuddies better through these chats than through Zoom meetings or sporadic interactions across various platforms. Editing Twitter is where I met some of my closest friends! I want to try to bottle that magic again; I know it won’t be exactly the same, but I believe it’s worth trying.
The major editing organizations aren’t investing heavily in Bluesky as a marketing channel and aren’t hosting their own Bluesky chats anymore. (I know because I asked!) I want to fill that gap! And so the idea for #StetChat was born.
What #StetChat Is
#StetChat is the spiritual successor to editor chats that have been hosted on Bluesky and OG Twitter (RIP). The name #StetChat draws from the hashtag #StetWalk, which was thought up by Tanya Gold and named by Heather Saunders. (There’s a fantastic blog post about the naming and founding of #StetWalk.) I wanted to pay homage to #StetWalk, a staple of the OG Twitter editing community, as I started this new endeavor to regroup and rebuild the sense of community among edibuddies that we lost in the Twitter exodus.
So, #StetChat. Every first and third Wednesday of the month, we’ll gather on Bluesky and talk about editing-related topics. Sometimes we’ll have a guest for the chat and ask them questions about the type of editing they do. But often we won’t have a guest because I’ve found that sometimes the best chats unfold when anyone can answer the questions and share their vastly different experiences. That’s how we learn together and create a community.
We’ll also try some new chat formats, like Red Flag Roulette, in which we’ll post questions about hypothetical red flag clients and editing situations, then we’ll all discuss how we’d deal with them. You do not even know how excited I am about this Red Flag Roulette idea…!!! It debuts on the June 17, 2026, #StetChat, and you do NOT want to miss it.
Above all, I want our editing community to have a space to come together and chat about editing-related stuff and just hang out. Let’s #StetChat.
