Making the Invisible Visible: Communicating the Value of Editing to Non-Editors
I wasn’t able to live post it while presenting (lol), but I spoke on the panel “Making the Invisible Visible: Communicating the Value of Editing to Non-Editors” with Shannon Roman (Version4), Heather E. Saunders (Nova Arc Content Co.), and Lauren Keleher (Promethium Editorial).
Editors know the value they bring and the level of multi-faceted expertise that’s required to edit well, but how do you explain that value to someone who thinks of it as just “moving a few commas around” or “making it pretty”? In this panel session, experienced editors from a range of professional backgrounds share their go-to strategies for communicating the importance of good editing to those who don’t understand its nuance, whether that’s prospective clients, internal stakeholders, or leadership teams. Get insights into how you can market your editorial expertise in a way that resonates with non-editors and gets the attention of decision-makers. Whether you’re a freelancer, in-house editor, or team lead, this session is intended to spark fresh ideas for making the invisible work of editing not just visible—but essential.
