As a freelance editor, I provide developmental editing, substantive editing, line editing, copy editing, and proofreading for fiction, nonfiction, and poetry books.

Developmental Edit

I’ll read through the manuscript and write you an editorial letter highlighting areas, such as character development, plot, dialogue, etc. that could be improved as well as suggestions on how to improve them. I’ll also provide comments within the manuscript.

Line Editing

I’ll suggest edits on the style, creative content, and language of your manuscript at a paragraph and sentence level.

Copy Editing

I’ll copy edit your manuscript for internal consistency and correct errors in spelling, grammar, and writing mechanics. I will include a style sheet.

Proofreading

I’ll edit your manuscript for technical errors, such as missing punctuation marks, incorrect spelling, and typos.

Print Book Design

I have experience in print book design in InDesign for authors who are self-publishing. I have created book layouts for self-published authors and literary magazines for fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.

Social Media Services for Authors

I also provide social media services for authors. I’m experienced in connecting readers and authors through social media.

I can help you optimize your social media profiles by updating your photos, bio, and links so that when readers find you, they know what you write and how to buy your book.

I can also help you engage your audience of readers over weeks or months by writing and creating content, scheduling it to post to your accounts, and engaging your audience members on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Content Marketing Work

In addition to book publishing projects and working with authors, I also freelance edit content marketing materials for organizations and companies. I edit blog posts, online articles, e-books, whitepapers, social media posts and more.

Professional Editorial Training

I completed the University of Chicago’s editing certificate program, and I have a BA in English and history. I am a member of ACES: The Society for Editing, Professional Editors Network, St. Louis Publishers Association, and Editorial Freelancers Association.

I have worked with both publishers and self-published authors. I am most familiar with Chicago Manual of Style and AP style.
