Book Review Policy
I read and review literary fiction, literary nonfiction, speculative fiction, poetry, history books, and books about editing and writing. I am also interested in magical realism, myth and legend, and fairy tales.
I do not review most genre books, including romance, erotica, horror, young adult, self-help, mystery, science fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, thrillers, fanfiction, or westerns. However, I am interested in books that bend between a genre and literary fiction.
I love reviewing books from small publishers, but I do not review self-published books. I only accept printed copies of books as I do not use an e-reader.
I post my full reviews on my website under Book Reviews. I also post a portion of my reviews on my Instagram account @carolinamariereads as well as on Goodreads and Amazon. I link to my reviews through my Twitter at @carolinamarie_v and occasionally LinkedIn.
My reviews discuss the work’s strengths and weakness from the perspective of an editor as well as a reader. I tend to be more academic in my reviews as a result of graduating with bachelor’s degrees in both English and history. I rate books on Goodreads and Amazon, but I do not provide a rating on my blog and Instagram because I feel ratings are too binary; I like to explore the nuances of the book.
Books will likely be reviewed within two to three months, depending on how excited I am about the book and what else I’ve committed to reading. You are not guaranteed a review, but I will do my best to read and review each book I receive.
If you would like me to review your book, please contact me.
